Privacy Policy
Effective date: February 10, 2026 · Last updated: February 10, 2026
1. Overview
Clausus ("we", "our", or "the Company") is built on the principle of local-first, privacy-preserving AI. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect information when you use the Clausus website (clausus.ai) and the Clausus desktop application.
By using our website or application, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use our services.
2. Our Core Principle: Your Data Stays on Your Device
Clausus is designed so that your documents, prompts, and AI interactions are processed entirely on your local machine. By default:
- No file uploads — Your documents are never sent to our servers or any third-party cloud service.
- No prompt telemetry — We do not collect, log, or transmit the questions you ask or the answers the AI generates.
- No training on your data — Your documents and interactions are never used to train or improve any AI model.
- Local vector index — The search index built from your documents is stored locally on your device and is not accessible to us.
3. Information We Collect
3.1 Website
- Contact form submissions — When you request a download or demo, we collect the information you provide: name, email address, company name, and role.
- Analytics (privacy-focused) — We use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-focused, cookie-free analytics tool. No personal data is collected; only aggregate page-view statistics are gathered. No tracking cookies are set.
3.2 Desktop Application
- Licence validation — When you activate your licence, the application sends your licence key to our server for verification. No document data or usage data is included in this request.
- Optional cloud API (opt-in only) — If you choose to enable cloud-based AI models, your prompts (not your documents) may be sent to the selected third-party API provider. This feature is disabled by default and requires explicit opt-in.
- Crash reports (opt-in only) — If you opt in, anonymised crash reports may be sent to help us improve stability. These contain technical diagnostics only — no document content, prompts, or personal data.
4. How We Use Your Information
We use the limited information we collect to:
- Process your download or demo request
- Validate your software licence
- Communicate with you about your account, updates, and support
- Improve our website and product based on aggregate analytics
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
5. Data Storage & Security
- Contact form data and licence records are stored securely with industry-standard encryption in transit and at rest.
- We retain your contact information only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this policy, or as required by law.
- All application data (documents, indexes, AI outputs) remains on your device and is not stored by Clausus.
6. Third-Party Services
Clausus uses the following third-party services on the website:
- Plausible Analytics — Privacy-focused web analytics. No cookies, no personal data collected. Learn more
- Vercel — Website hosting. Subject to Vercel's Privacy Policy
If you enable the optional cloud API feature in the desktop application, prompts will be processed by your selected third-party AI provider under their respective privacy policies. This is entirely optional and disabled by default.
7. Cookies
The Clausus website does not use cookies for tracking or advertising. We may use strictly necessary cookies for essential website functionality only.
8. UAE PDPL & Regional Data Protection
Clausus is designed with UAE Personal Data Protection Law (PDPL) and regional data protection requirements in mind. Because our application processes data locally on your device:
- No cross-border data transfers occur during normal application use
- Client documents remain within your organisation's physical and network boundaries
- You maintain full control over data access, retention, and deletion
- Air-gap deployment is available for environments with strict data sovereignty requirements
9. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access — Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Correction — Request correction of inaccurate personal data
- Deletion — Request deletion of your personal data
- Portability — Request your data in a machine-readable format
- Withdraw consent — Opt out of optional data collection (crash reports, cloud API) at any time
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@clausus.ai. We will respond within 30 days.
10. Children's Privacy
Clausus is designed for professional business use. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child, we will delete it promptly.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via our website or by email. Continued use of Clausus after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
